iPhone apps – keeping track of your what you eat

You are what you eat.

No cliche could be more true!  The % ratio of nutrition:exercise and the result it has on your fat loss is around 70:30. Meaning you can exercise as much as you like, but if you are still eating like s#@t, you will not get very far.

You can’t out train a bad diet.

Hence why 90% of my clients are asked to complete food diaries.  Everything that goes into their mouths must be recorded with times eaten.  Which you can imagine becomes a bit painful, especially when they are out and don’t have the pen and paper.  Enter PhotoCalorie.

Pretty simple;  You take a picture of what you are about to eat, then type in a description (e.g. 2 poached eggs, 2 pieces ham, 1 piece of rye bread), it calculates an estimated calorie count which is broken into the macronutrient content (carbs, protein + fats), then you eat it!!

Apparently it has a good database of the nutritional contents of most foods, including fast food chains, and the calorie count it shoots back seems to be pretty spot on.

GREAT for people trying to stick to a certain amount of calories per day (e.g. for fat loss or building muscle), and might open some peoples eyes as to how much they eat.

I use it, and have found that every time I’ve thought about eating crap like chocolate, I remember I must take a photo of it first (which means I am now holding myself accountable for what I am eating) and usually decide against it.

Technology!
